Abstract

The ‘Nature Inspired Creative Design’ cluster brought together people from three main areas: Nature and Biology, Art and Design, and Science and Computing. It aimed to establish a forum for cross-fertilisation between disciplines, within the overall topic of adopting nature inspired approaches to creative design. The main goal of the network was to explore what can be learned from Nature for human design and engineering activities. The design process is becoming increasingly complex and demanding, and will continue to do so into the future. Evolution is probably the most prominent natural design process. Co-evolution of different species can provide a possible model of co-evolution between design and user preferences, and possibly be used to model user trends. One of the research projects coming out of the cluster is interested in the evolutionary origins of aesthetics.
