Abstract

In recent reports (Kohl et al. 1980; Rennie et al. 1982; Shearer et al. 1980; Yoneyama et al. 1986a, b) the 15N dilution method for the determination of natural levels of 15N was used to estimate the proportion of symbiotically fixed nitrogen and combined nitrogen during nitrogen accumulation in leguminous plants. However, a heterogeneous distribution of l5N in plant parts was sometimes observed, which made it difficult to apply this method for the selection of appropriate parts for the estimation.
