Abstract

An analysis of natural ventilation systems in buildings in Greece is carried out based on facts related to their behaviour and performance. Emphasis is given to those facts that are related to the procedure described in the design model which is suggested as being appropriate for implementation due to the prevailing climatic and environmental conditions in the region. This analysis determines the characteristics of the corresponding systems that promote, in the context of the design, optimal conditions of comfort and hygiene inside the buildings, and this with minimum energy costs. The conclusions have the advantage of being based on actual data, with regard to ventilation processes in buildings in Greece (climatic and environmental conditions, architectural characteristics, construction techniques) which, in many respects, differ from those in other countries.
