Abstract

Natural rubber/graphene oxide (NR/GO) nanocomposites were prepared by latex mixing. The dispersion state of GO and the mechanical properties of the nanocomposites were studied. It was found that a uniform dispersion of GO in the NR matrix was achieved with the latex mixing method. The well-distributed GO was remarkably effective in improving the tensile strength and storage modulus of NR at very low filler contents, without sacrificing the ultimate strength. The percolation point of GO in the nanocomposites took place at a content of less than 0.1 parts by weight per hundred parts of rubber. The Halpin-Tsai model was used to analyze the reinforcement effect of GO for NR.
