Abstract

The concentrations of the natural radionuclides namely 40 K , 232 Th and 238 U in 44 different rock samples around Ondo and Ekiti states have been determined using an Nal (TL) detector coupled to a computerized ACCUSPEC MCA (Multichannel Analyzer) Installation. Gamma spectrometric analyses were performed and the concentrations obtained for each of the radionuclides expressed in Bq kg −1 are 4.751 ± 0.091, 13.376 ± 0.0197, and 3.308 ± 0.017 for 40 K , 238 U and 232 Th , respectively. The mean absorbed dose rate is 8.139 ± 0.427 nGy h −1 at 1.0 m above the ground level. These results indicate that the radioactivity in these rocks is very low.
