Abstract

Left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) are widely used as a bridge to heart transplantation or destination therapy for advanced heart failure. LVAD implantation has been associated with increased production of both HLA- and nonHLA-reactive antibodies, including natural polyreactive antibodies (Nabs) recognizing oxidation-specific epitopes. Little is known about Nabs generation following LVAD implant and whether they are part of a systemic inflammatory reaction. Here, we sought to determine the kinetics of Nabs development alongside markers of immune activation and inflammation.
