Abstract

Abstract The design, development, conservation and maintenance of urban and rural public open spaces presents an increasingly difficult challenge, in terms of decisions about their most effective use. If the psychological and mental health‐related aspects of the properties of the natural landscape are to be taken into consideration, there is a need for more reliable, scientifically based, information, which is readily available. This paper provides a brief multi‐disciplinary review of research and theory.
