Abstract
Abstract The natural frequency of machine parts as related to the noise problem in machine operation is discussed in a general manner. Vibration phenomena in disks and rings are described in detail, following which the author discusses the manner in which a gear vibrates at its natural frequency. An empirical formula is given for the natural frequency of a gear in terms of its dimensions and material.
