Abstract
Food habits ofMelaniris sardina, Astyanax fasciatus andDorosoma chavesi (n=562) were analyzed in Lake Xolotlan (Managua). Quality and quantity of ingested food were studied by dissecting the alimentary canal and observing its content. Cladocera were the main food forM. Sardina andA. fasciatus. Melaniris sardina could play an important role in maintaining low cladoceran population densities in the lake. Rotifers are the main food forD. chavesi.
