Abstract

Concerns about the environment have been an important topic of global debate, and the energy sector is largely responsible for environmental negative impacts. Thus, several countries have been opting to use renewable fuels, such as biodiesel, despite it, the combustibility properties of this fuel are still not ideal. To improve these characteristics, this study proposes to use natural compounds as additives in babassu biodiesel. Biodiesel was produced by the babassu oil transesterification process, and the additive mixtures were carried out by factorial design. Were analyzed the properties of density, viscosity, freezing point, cloud point, and cold filter clogging point and found that there was an improvement in all fuel properties, the most expressive in the mixture containing 0% isoamyl alcohol; 7% camphor; and 7% limonene. Results that show a positive trend to use natural compounds as antifreeze additives in biodiesel.
