Abstract

The properties of natural and synthetic raw materials for the production of fine ceramic determine together with the process characteristics the microstructure and many other properties of sintered materials. The improvement of these powders by different dresing and synthesis methods is based on specially tailored raw materials of high homogeneity and good working properties, associated with higher purity, a low rate of agglomerates as well as distinctive particle features and novel attributes. A survey is presented on the different types of raw materials for the production of quartz and alumina porcelain as well as stealite and cordierite materials. The manufacture of several oxide and non-oxide ceramics is described including quality characteristics, inspection possibilities and the effects on process parameters and material properties
