Abstract

Sodium carbonatocuprate(II)-trihydrate (Na 2Cu(CO 3) 2·3H 2O), known as a synthetic compound and as a corrosion product of old Egyptian bronzes, was observed as an industrial corrosion product under the alternating action of Na 2CO 3 solution and air on Cu. By means of X-ray and electron diffraction the monocline unit cell ( a = 9·70 5Å, b = 6·09 5Å, c = 13·82 5Å, β = 91 °55′ ) was determined. An infra-red spectrogram was recorded in the range of 4000-600cm −1.
