Abstract

T HE national parks of Brazil offer the geographer two main avenues of investigation: a study of outstanding natural areas and a study of park management and recreational development in the tropics. These are areas of Brazil in which the original landscape has been little changed by man's occupance, in contrast with their surroundings. The physical and biotic elements in these tropical areas show magnificent variety. Problems connected with the management of national parks of Brazil as recreational resources relate to broad land-use patterns in regions of various stages of development.
