Abstract
Groundwater depletion is a common problem in most of the countries across the world. This is caused by excess population growth, improved living standards, and climate change issues. Many regions across the world are accessing deep groundwater sources for managing water supply demands. This research article presents issues related to accessing deep groundwater sources in regions like California, USA. Potential environmental, technological and governance related groundwater management issues associated with desalination of deep groundwater reserves are discussed briefly. A concise discussion on global water supply issues and potential strategies to overcome the present barriers are presented for both developed and developing countries.
