Abstract

It was 30 years ago that Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Kevin Dillard and a group from the Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squads who founded the volunteer-based National EMS Memorial Service (NEMSMS) to honor and recognize emergency medical services (EMS) and air medical providers who died in the line of duty, held the first service. They realized that although there were memorial services for police and fire professionals, there was no formal recognition of EMS and air medical providers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service to others.
