Abstract
"Natality Statistics Analysis: United States, 1962," a recent publication of the National Center for Health Statistics (who prepared this abstract), is the first report of Series 21, presenting natality statistics and their analysis. The report, prepared by the Center's Division of Vital Statistics, makes use of information obtained from microfilm copies of the original certificates of live births from the fifty states and other special areas. According to the report, 1962 marked the tenth consecutive year in which births exceeded four million in the United States. It marked the fifth year in which the birth rate— based on the number of live births per 1,000 population—continued to decline since the last peak year of 1957.
