Abstract

The Japanese National Cancer Center, established in 1962 by the Ministry of Health and Welfare as the sole central-government-supported cancer center in Japan, is the country's core institute for the promotion of cancer research and is heavily involved in the development and implementation of a national policy for cancer control. In this commentary, the director of the National Cancer Research Institute, Masaaki Terada, discusses it's priorities and long-term aims.
