Abstract

Clinical nurse specialists (CNSs) work to move clinical practice forward by leveraging technological advances, incorporating cutting-edge research, and building on evidence-based practice to create new models of care for improving the health individuals, families, communities, and even healthcare organizations. As clinical innovation experts, CNSs are well positioned to influence practice, education, and research. Outcomes was the watchword for the 2012 conference. The conference highlighted novel approaches to CNS practice within the 3 spheres of influence: the client sphere (individual, family, community), the staff sphere (nurses, nursing practice), and organization/system sphere (see Statement on Clinical Nurse Specialist Practice and Education, 2004). The National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists (NACNS) continued the successful 2011 conference format with concurrent sessions featuring a practice track, an education track, a research track, and an entry-into-practice track spanning the conference schedule. The conference abstracts are published to disseminate the significant outcomes that clinical nurse specialist practice contributes, as well as share new knowledge with those unable to attend the conference. In reading each abstract, appreciate the intellectual talent, clinical scholarship, and new innovations of your CNS colleagues who are advancing the practice of nursing and contributing to the health of society through improved outcomes for patients and healthcare organizations. We encourage you to contact individual presenters to network, collaborate, consult, or share your thoughts and ideas on their abstract submissions. Watch for next year’s call for abstracts and consider submitting for presentation at the next NACNS Annual Conference scheduled for March 2013 in San Antonio, Texas.
