Abstract

Purpose: This paper aims to discuss a new dance creation entitled "Nataka Bhinna" which comes from a cross-gender phenomenon.
Research method: Using Balinese gamelan and MIDI (musical instrument digital interface), the dance is presented with stage choreography at Museum Puri Lukisan Ubud. Its analysis uses imagination theory, aesthetic theory, and semiotic theory.
Results and discussion: The movement motifs used in "Nataka Bhinna" dance work using ngagem are created to follow the theme raised in the arrangement of the work. The tandang movement was developed without eliminating the grip of the away movement itself. The tangkep movement is developed according to the expression and emphasizes the characters used.
