Abstract

Primary nasopharyngeal tuberculosis (TB) is a rare disease. It presents most frequently as a tumor mass in the nasopharynx. Therefore, it needs to be differentiated from nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), especially in Taiwan. We report a case of nasopharyngeal TB without a chest lesion. For differentiation from NPC, total excision of the nasopharyngeal mass under the endoscope was done to confirm the diagnosis. Then the patient was referred to the department of infectious diseases for a planned antitubercu-lous therapy. Now, there is no tumor mass over the nasopharynx except edematous change. Bilateral neck masses have also disappeared. (J Otolaryn-gology Soc ROC 1998;33:162-166.)
