Abstract

Nasal polyps (NPs) are heterogeneous and occur in chronic rhinosinusitis, a complex disorder with high rates of postoperative recurrence.1 Identification of predictors for recurrence is useful for improved personalized and holistic disease management. To date, previous attempts to predict NP recurrence are limited by the invasive nature of surgical tissue sample acquisition and the small number of biomarkers analyzed, which have been mostly related to type 2 (T2) and eosinophilic inflammation.2,3 The predictive value of T2 biomarkers may be impaired by the heterogeneous feature of NPs, and other biomarkers such as neutrophils may be more effective in predicting prognosis in patients with noneosinophilic NPs.
