Abstract

Introduction: Congenital nasal masses occur in about 1 in 20,000 to 40,000 live births. Usually, these are dermoid cysts, encephaloceles, or nasal gliomas (nasal glial heterotopia). They form during embryogenesis due to incomplete separation of ectodermal and neuroectodermal tissue. Nasal gliomas may occur extranasally, intranasally, or as a combination of both. They manifest usually at birth or during early childhood and can cause a visible deformation, a nasal obstruction, or chronic otitis media.
