Abstract

As part of its effort to study the 1991 solar maximum, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration is inviting proposals from scientists interested in flying instruments on high‐altitude balloons at the time of the solar maximum. The long‐duration balloon flights (LDBF) will provide an excellent opportunity for observing solar emissions. The flights will reach altitudes of 105 feet (∼3×104 m) and above and will last for time periods of days or weeks. The first flights will begin in 1990, and there may be additional flights as late as 1994.
