Abstract
Narrow line width and polarization independent multichannel filter based on one-dimensional photonic crystal (1D PC) containing negative index materials (NIMs) is proposed and theoretically studied. It is found that narrow transmission bands for 1D PC containing NIMs are merely centered at frequencies (wavelengths) satisfying Fabry–Perot resonating condition due to the existence of n¯-zero gap. Besides, we disclose that this PC is simultaneously characterized by polarization independence at normal incidence and that transfer characteristics of this 1D PC such as frequency spacing and line width could be adjusted by changing structure parameters of it. Finally, we devise an explicit multi-channel filter based on such 1D PC for DWDM system with 50GHz channel spacing for verification.
