Abstract

In the film 'Wings of Desire', the director Wim Venders and screenwriter Peter Handke do not use the mythical story of angels as the basis of the whole narrative structure of their work but use myth allegorically in one segment of the narrative form. The myth, in the intertextual sense, is just a part of the structure, story within a story, a part of a diegethic process. 'Wings of Desire' is not a story about angels but about Berlin, human suffering, love and longing, and at last of angels in the mentioned context. That is why the mythical story is just a part of the narrative structure for the authors and not the goal of the narrative. Above all, the authors speak of people using the motive of the 'fallen angel', not gods or natural forces but human as the center of the narrative.
