Abstract

The objective was to analyze the narratives of homeless people with ostomies in a state in northeastern Brazil. This is a qualitative study in which data were produced in two moments: documentary research and interviews guided by the thematic oral history approach. The interviews were inserted into the Atlas.ti 7 software to organize and process the data, which were analyzed using thematic content analysis. From the analysis of interview data, 34 subcategories emerged in total. The results showed that the group of participants is mostly under 40 years old, male, mixed race, complete primary education and between 5 and 10 years living on the streets. It was reported that having a colostomy bag is limiting, either due to the lack of information on where to seek specialized services, or stigma and prejudice.
