Abstract

Context: The article explores the meanings of the concept of the term logos present in western philosophy and mythology; the characteristics of each of the concept of logos are presented. Method: this literature review uses primary and secondary sources, it applies textual exegesis and results are presented semi-chronologically. Results: The review shows that logos is the intellect in HIPPOLYTUS, worded in HERACLITUS, and is the structured reason in the discourse in the logos-discourse of the Stoics. It acquires his structure and order with the logic of thought embodied in spoken language, to discover something about one´s self and something about others in HERACLITUS. It is the organization, the method, the process of reaching knowledge in PLATO and EUCLID. It is also the motivator of men, the fire the Greeks spoke about, it is also the structure that organizes the whole universe in the Stoics, it is also the way to find universal laws in HERACLITUS. To seek the logos is to embody the divine in man with morality in Marduk of Assyria and the Abrahamic religions. logos is also what has been since the beginning of time and when he leaves the mortal body and becomes one again with the creative power in the Origins OF ALEXANDRIA. Research projections: this article is part of an initiative to consolidate the body of knowledge of a seminar in humanities, therefore it is necessary to continue compiling definitions of seminal concepts in the philosophy that gives rise to the human sciences.
