Abstract

Delineating the significant nature and function of games in digital culture studies and digital humanities, this chapter explores the aesthetic interconnections between Bollywood films and video games in order to critically engage with the issues of consumer culture, film aesthetics, spectatorship, and narrative. Furthermore, extrapolating the process of transformation when a story moves from a film text to a gaming text, the chapter aims to examine the ways in which games construct conceptions of spatiality, political systems, ethics, and society. Since video games cannot be adequately explained just by narratological and ludological methods, this chapter employs a diversity of discursive approaches (from aesthetic criticism to critical cultural theory) as analytical tools to unpack the complex, interactive worlds of gaming that inform my discussion of video games on Bollywood films.
