Narcotic Addiction in Males and Females: a Comparison1

Abstract

Data were presented for both male and female addicts. Salient similarities and differences were demonstrated. Similarities between male and female addicts were noted in the data as to demography, educational levels, parental origin and the general pattern of drug use. Sex differences were noted in family dynamics that differentially favor raising either males or females who become antisocial and addicted. Cultural factors also help to shape the sex incidence and differences in addiction. Charts are presented for those interested in more detailed comparison of male and female addiction.
