Abstract

Abstract Naphthobispyrazine (NPz), a family of naphthalene-based electron-deficient fused heteroaromatic rings, and its derivatives including a polymer are efficiently synthesized via the ring-opening reaction of corresponding naphthobisthiadiazole derivatives. The electrochemical and optical measurements of the NPz-based molecules and polymers revealed that NPz has relatively weak electron deficiency and thus affords medium band-gap polymers. The photovoltaic properties of the polymer, in combination with PC61BM, were also studied.
