Abstract

We present our results on nanostructuring of metal layers and transparent materials with femotsecond laser pulses. The challenge is to develop a simple laser-based technology for the fabrication of periodic nanostructures in metal layers and in high refractive index transparent materials with a structure size of the order of several hundreds nanometers. This is required for many applications in photonics, for fabrication of photonic crystals and microoptical devices, data storage etc. The reduction of the damage and ablation thresholds with increasing number of pulses is studied. We present our results on nanostructuring of metal layers and transparent materials with femotsecond laser pulses.
