Abstract
Nanostructuring of metallic materials can be carried out by severe plastic deformation (SPD). These materials have enhanced mechanical properties, and therefore, can effectively be used in commercial structural applications. SPD-processed nanostructured material possesses ultrafine and nanostructure grain morphology along with nano twins, nanoclusters, nanostructured secondary phase, and precipitates. Nanostructure metallic materials possess very high strength, enhance ductility, a low friction coefficient, and an improved high cycle fatigue life. This chapter overviews the structure and property relationships of nanostructured metallic materials processed by SPD and the mechanisms that hugely influence the mechanical properties.
