Abstract

Nonvacuum dip-coating techniques were used to prepare Bi-2212 tapes on Ag/Ni clad substrates. The Bi-2212 tapes were doped with MgO nanoparticles at varying concentrations to obtain improved flux pinning. The tapes were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron micrography (SEM), and transport measurements. We observed a more than 33% improvement of the critical current density Jc at 4 K, self field, for the tape incorporating MgO nanoparticles. We also observed improved Jc values for MgO-doped tape at high field-as much as 60% at 3 T for magnetic field angles near the c- axis direction, which indicates enhanced flux pinning by the MgO nano-particles.
