Abstract

An ultrasonic dispersion method using ultrasonic cavitation and streaming effects is suggested for the effective dispersion of nanoparticle suspensions. To generate ultrasonic cavitation efficiently, a high-intensity ultrasonic field is formed with arrayed piezoelectric transducers in the inner surface of a cylinder. To use the eddy current effect caused by ultrasonic streaming in the suspension, the arrayed piezoelectric transducers are tilted by a regular degree from the inner surface of the cylinder. Titanium dioxide (TiO2) and carbon nanotube (CNT) suspensions that were dispersed by the suggested dispersion method showed excellent dispersion characteristics compared with those dispersed by the conventional method.
