Abstract
Nano-forensics is the application of nanotechnology-based methods to solve cases in forensic science. Forensic science is a multidisciplinary approach which provides a scientific approach in criminal investigation and help judicial system to come at conclusion of case. However, there are certain limitations in forensic science which can be overcome with the use of nanotechnology. Nano-forensics deals with the development of new tools for DNA isolation, fingerprint visualization, explosive detection, gunshot residue analysis, identification of body fluids, detection of illicit drugs, forensic toxicology, etc. The most common types of nanomaterials used in forensic science are nanoparticles, nanocrystals, quantum dots, nanocomposites, nanobelts, nanoclusters, nanorods, nanotubes, etc. The scope of nanotechnology is wide; however, its use in forensic science is less explored.
