Abstract

CoCrxNiMoCB coatings with different contents of Cr were prepared by laser cladding. While the microhardness was increased with the increased addition of Cr, the wear resistance exhibited a decreasing trend. Based on the wear tracks analysis, it was concluded that the oxide layers formed on the surface of the wear tracks with low Cr content coatings were the reason for their the low wear volume losses. The nano-eutectic structure was proved to be beneficial for the formation of the oxide layer that adhered to the wear track surfaces.
