Abstract

The material of the two new species was collected from abyssal depths of the Norwegian Sea, during expedition Norbi, in July–August 1975. N. profundus sp.n. was found between 2470 m and 3016 m in the Norwegian, Lofoten, and Greenland Basins. The species is close to N. plebejus Hansen, 1916, but differs in the shape of female pleotelson, male first pleopod, and in having relatively smaller operculum. A. norbi sp.n. was only found in the Norwegian and Greenland Basins, between 2470 m and 3612 m. A. norbi sp.n. is distinguished from other Austroniscus species in a number of combined characters; including shape of rostrum and pereonites 1 and 2, and in having pleotelson wider than pereonite 7.
