Abstract
In the article a proposal is developed for research of the process of ‘naturalization’. Naturalization is conceived of as a specific form of power. In the proposal, a specific definition of the concept of naturalization, an operationalization of the concept, and a procedure for research are developed. The operationalization proposed is that of ‘naming’. After a critical evaluation of linguistic arguments for the choice of naming as a research instrument, a proposal is developed following a ‘text-sociological’ approach. The procedure is described in its particulars. To illustrate its use for research, fragments from doctor-patient conversations and a file taken from a mental health clinic are analyzed.
