Abstract

A key turning point in the struggle for Namibia was the victory of socialist forces in neighboring Angola. In 1975-76 the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), with Cuban assistance, defeated the combined forces of two other Angolan parties, Zairean troops, CIA operatives, Western mercenaries, and a South African invasion force.
