Abstract

AbstractThe films of R.W. Fassbinder employ character names which are different from character-naming practices in literature. Fassbinder often uses an actor's personal name or a variant as a basis for naming the character. Nicknames from Fassbinder's inner circle are also used, as are names based on figures from literature or history; one of the most important is Franz Biberkopf, the hero of Döblin's Berlin Alexanderplatz.
