Abstract

Professor Nalin Mukherjee passed away in January 1984. He was loved and respected by colleagues all over the world. Nalin Mukherjee received his bachelor's and master's degrees in Bengal, India. He was awarded a Ph.D. in physical chemistry by the University of London in 1949. Shortly afterward, Sydney Chapman brought him to the Geophysical Institute of the University of Alaska, in Fairbanks. Later, Mukherjee taught at the University of Washington, Seattle, and then at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, where he worked closely with Henry Eyring.
