Abstract

Cocondensation of FeCI2 and FeBr2 with CO/Ar leads either to species of the composition FeX2·n CO, whose vco stretching vibration is of higher frequency than that of free CO, or to the hitherto unknown complexes trans‐[Fe(CO)4X2], X = CI, Br. In the case of FeI2, only trans‐[Fe(CO)4I2] has been detected, and in the case of FeF2 exclusively FeF2·n CO adducts are formed, even with pure CO at 35 K. These findings are of significance for an understanding of sorption phenomena.
