Abstract

While analysing the acting of contemporary Lithuanian drama theatre some distinct changes are observed: traditional ways of acting are intensively supplemented with the innovative forms of expression. The Lithuanian theatre critics often analyse the non-traditional methods of acting in the context of contemporary theatre practice and in relation to the newest tendencies of acting. Nevertheless new forms of acting could be discussed in the relationship with acting methods of modern theatre too. This article aims to present the main acting conceptions of modern theatre and to show how they are reflected in the contemporary Lithuanian drama theatre. The acting conceptions of such modern theatre directors as K.Stanislavsky, B.Brecht, E.G.Craig, and J.Vachtangov are presented in this study. They show different methods of acting, which demonstrate different attitudes between the actor and the character. K.Stanislavsky's system of acting is traditionally considered to be the mainstream of the Lithuanian acting. Nevertheless other methods of modern acting are also effectively used in contemporary Lithuanian theatre. The paper presents an analysis of several Lithuanian acting tendencies, which could be noticed in the productions of such theatre directors as Rimas Tuminas, Jonas Vaitkus, and Oskaras Koršunovas.
