Abstract
We have previously demonstrated both a structural and a functional regeneration of the cardiac lesion in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) after direct intra-cardiac delivery of autologous peripheral blood-CD34+ stem cells collected after mobilization by G-CSF. The whole procedure was heavy for the patient and could only be performed in a very few specialized centers. Thus, with the concern to simplify and to standardize the cell graft production process, we have developed an automated device (StemXpand®) and disposable kits (Stempack®) allowing a nine-day GMP CD34+ stem cell expansion process, starting from a whole blood sample simply withdrawn from the AMI patient after G-CSF mobilization.
