Abstract

Nail grooming and adornment is an enormous industry and an important aspect of personal grooming in our culture. Common nail salon practices include manicures, pedicures, artificial nail extensions, and enhancements. Fortunately, the majority of these visits occur without complications. Although millions of women visit nail salons and use nail cosmetics with no adverse reactions or problems, there are significant potential problems that must be recognized, diagnosed, and managed. Problems and adverse outcomes in the field of nail cosmetics are related to either the ingredients of the nail cosmetics used or the procedures, techniques and instruments used to beautify and groom fingernails and toenails.
