Abstract

With the emergence of the Era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, various services and products converged with the fourth industrial technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT) and Virtual Reality (VR) have been released. Under these circumstances, people have become excited with more preference and interest in nail art. As a result, the growth and prosperity of nail-care industry are expected. Therefore, this study attempted to suggest a vision for nail art and its future direction in the Era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution by investigating the awareness and utility of a nail printing machine and manicure/pedicure mobile game which were developed through the convergence of fourth industrial technologies. For this, a questionnaire survey was conducted among men and women living in Seoul, Gwangju, Busan and Jeonnam. For data analysis, factor analysis, chi-square test, frequency analysis and descriptive statistics were performed, using SPSS WIN 21.0, and the results found the following: First, when asked if they knew about the nail printing machine, only 30.2% responded positively (‘absolutely’: 8 respondents (3.1%)’, ‘yes’: 69 respondents (27.1%)). Second, in terms of utility of the nail printer, ‘cost effective (91 respondents, 35.7%)’ was most responded. Third, when asked if they knew about the virtual manicure/pedicure mobile game, only 28.3% responded positively (‘absolutely’: 5 respondents (2.0%)’, ‘yes’: 67 respondents (26.3%)). Fourth, regarding the utility of a virtual manicure/pedicure mobile game, ‘I believe that a virtual manicure/pedicure mobile game may enhance the competitiveness of the nail-care industry’ was most responded. The above results confirmed that even though people’s awareness of a ‘nail printing machine’ and ‘virtual manicure/pedicure mobile game’ which adopted fourth industrial technologies is as low as 20-30%, their utility suggests the vision and growth potential of the nail-care industry through the enhancement of its competitiveness.
