Abstract
It is proved that, in the presence of one excess hole and one excess electron in otherwise half-filled doubly degenerate Hubbard bands, with infinite intra-atomic interactions, the ground state is ferromagnetic in the case of an alternate lattice. This result still holds when the excess charge carriers are coupled by a long-range attractive interaction. This is applied to excitons in Mott insulators which should form ferromagnetic spin polarons at finite temperatures.
