Abstract

Aim: Monocyte-derived macrophages (Mac) express functional NADPH oxidase 5 (Nox5) that may play a role in mediating oxidative stress-induced deleterious effects in atherogenesis. The role of epigenetic regulation of Nox5 by histone acetyltransferases (HAT) it is not known. The aim of this study was: to investigate the expression pattern of HAT1 and P300 isoforms in human and experimental atherosclerosis; to evaluate the role of HAT1 and P300 in mediating Nox5 transcriptional activation, gene and protein expression in human Mac.
