Abstract

The status of blood group isoantigens correlates well with the course of tumorous lesions and dysplasias of bladder, cervical and colon mucosa. The loss of blood group isoantigens is indicative for an aggressive behavior. Also it has been shown that adjacent to an invasive carcinoma “normal” appearing epithelium shows the same status of these antigens as the carcinoma, thus indicating a change involving the submicroscopical level. Blood group isoantigens can be demonstrated also in normal epithelium of the larynx. As in other organs some hyperplasias, dysplasias and carcinomas show a loss of AB0-isoantigens. The technique of these investigations and preliminary results are demonstrated and discussed especially in regard to the prognosis and therapeutic consequences.
