Abstract
The article addresses major challenges for NATO's transformation after the recent enlargement of the organizati on, particularly the Alliance's more active contribution to the security and stability of the Euro-Atlantic area and beyond, the improvement of its instruments and capabilities (i.a. concerning the fight against terrorism and the NATO Response Force), and the state of its partnerships, including to Russia and the Ukraine. Finally the author analyses the future of the Alliance and its role in the context of an international security system. An important condition for the success of NATO's political strategy is its ability to cope effectively with the new security challenges of the future.
